Back in 2000, Lois McMaster Bujold was a guest at Hispacon, in Spain. The con put up a website with lots of fun pictures. The coolest picture showed Lois being stalked by a life-size Alien critter [either a masquerade winner or very large statue]. The picture with the coolest caption showed Lois holding under her arm what looked like a miniature bagpipe. The caption said something about how she was unafraid of torturing the cat.
Torturing the cat? What a wonderful idea! Our cat likes to wake us up far too early in the morning. Meg has the theory that, if we keep her up, she won't keep us up. When the cat takes naps on the bed with me in the morning, I often wait until she's completely relaxed & blissed out, then I pet her a lot. I pet her every 15-20 minutes thereafter, making sure that she can't get restful sleep [turnabout being fair play, after all], but still, since I'm one of those magic fingers people, she has a good time. She mrows protestingly, but still purrs a lot. Tee hee hee.
How do you torture your cat? [or spouse, or target of choice]

Date: 2004-05-23 10:51 am (UTC)Our now-deceased family cat, Worthless, and I sort of grew up together. Worthless showed up at our door when I was 6 and died just before my 23 birthday. He and I had a rather sibling-like relationship, antagonistic yet loving. When I was little, he wouldn't let me near him (patented distrust/dislike of small children) but loved to stalk me and attack my feet. When I got older he came to love me, sleeping on my bed or lap or chest a lot, alternatingly loving or a nuisance depending on the time/place. I, of course, never resisted the opportunity to give back as good as I got.
One of my favorite means of torturing the cat? Well, he liked to drink from the toilet, standing on the rim, all 4 feet splayed, head down, ass up. It was a position that required a lot of concentration, leaving an opening for a quiet soul to perhaps slip in behind him and give him a gentle shove.
Oh, the dirty looks one gets from a miffed cat with dripping whiskers...
