So, I mentioned in a comment that I was going to the library book sale with the Professora today. Too generous for my spouse's peace of mind,
mmegaera wished, "Hope you find some Really Good Stuff at the book sale." [Did I mention how cute my spouse is when he whimpers?]
The sale's officially the last Saturday of the month, but they set up on Friday afternoon. I like to go early to a) avoid the worst of the crowds and b) get first dibs on the best stuff. The catch is, sometimes they don't have time to put everything out [especially when we meet up at noon, and a hungry professora is clamoring for her lunch]. Last month, we missed the box of ARCs. This month, we more than made up for it.
These are titles that were on my list of books to either buy-now or look-at-first:
Hags, Sirens, and Other Bad Girls of Fantasy, edited by Denise Little*
Children of Magic, edited by Martin Greenberg & Kerrie Hughes
Duchess of Aquitaine--Margaret Ball*
The Marriage Spell--Mary Jo Putney*
Undead and Unpopular--MaryJanice Davidson*
The Tale of Cuckoo Brow Wood--Susan Wittig Albert*
Throne of Jade--Naomi Novik
Picked up on speculation:
The Veiled Web--Catherine Asaro
The Mirror Prince--Violette Malan*
The Little Lady Agency--Hester Browne*
I See You--Holly Lisle*
Probably for the Free Book Project, Part 2:
Throne of Jade--Naomi Novik [2nd copy]
Dead & Loving It--MaryJanice Davidson [duplicate]
Across Realtime--Vernor Vinge omnibus [duplicate]
But the single best score of the day was _Smoke and Ashes_*, by
andpuff. I'll get the hardback later ['cause she's definitely a hardback author], but it's nice to be able to read the whole trilogy *now*. Any wonder I'm such a believer that books find the folks who're meant to have them?
