I came of age during the Golden Age of used bookstores, so when I was starting the pruning of my books, several years ago, I took a craptonne of books to Book Nook to trade in. Mostly SF & F and mysteries, assuming that maybe I could trade at a 2 or 3 to 1 ratio. Hah.
All I could get was store credit and even so would still have to use cash to buy anything. Ended up with over $200 in store credit, that I've never used, since my personal collection of what I wanted was so extensive.
Having said that, I do understand the problem of trying to make a profit, and they are nice people there, but SHEESH. I feel your pain!
