It can be very helpful on your taxes, but a couple of cautions: keep an itemized list. Author Pauline Griffin recommends setting a flat rate for paperbacks & hardbacks & just using that. It's simpler that way, & she's never been audited. I just designed a sheet with title, hb or pb, & deduction. It's dead simple to add up at the end of the year.

The other caution: don't let your total get over $5,000. According to research ze spouse did back in ze day, anything over $5,000, you have to have appraised.
